Our concept organises the new spaces around light and properties of materials old and new. A new courtyard below a light scope which bridges the space between old and new elements vertically with a shifting porosity of light and shadow that changes seasonally. The ground floor can either utilise the entire space or use the courtyard as an outside space.
A mixture of polished white porcelain floors with old stained timber boards within the existing building exposes the layers of history within and below the building. A long view into the courtyard from the pavement at night will create an added interest to the core, drawing interest before revealing the jewel box first floor extension clad in a contrasting material which can be seen from the surrounding buildings. Stripping back the countless poor alterations, whilst sensitively revealing and respecting the old fabric, this bold renovation of an existing 4 storey office incorporating a new 2 storey extension has created from a palette of simple mix of colours, textures, materials and light, bringing new meaning to the building, a new vitality, breathing new life.
