Replacing a set of two-storey garages which formed a gap in George Road, the build provides 3 high quality apartments, off-street parking for 11 cars.
Designed to blend seamlessly into its surrounding older buildings, the traditionally proportioned street facade is clad in white honed stone and render which reflects and respects its context. The east elevation has all the principle living and sleeping spaces on it and incorporates balconies and terraces to take full advantage of the stunning views.
Concrete was chosen for its sustainable credentials and the speed and accuracy it brought to the build. The superstructure is concrete with piled foundations, the main structural system concrete blockwork and glass.
Due to the highly sensitive nature of the site and its prominent position, there was a long period of pre-planning consultation. Though highly criticised by locals during this process, the finished building is now very difficult to pick out along the coastline and has received widespread support from many of the neighbours and original detractors.
